Welcome to the annual SOCAN ECHO Songwriting Prize competition. This songwriting prize recognizes the best in new Canadian independent music by letting you – independent music fans – vote for the winners (English & French prize).

After a record-setting number of total public votes, the winner of the 2012 ECHO Songwriting Prize is Kathleen Edwards and John Roderick for their song “A Soft Place to Land”. Edwards and Roderick receive a prize of $5000 for their achievement. Congratulations!

The winner of the iPad prize giveaway is Vera Ryan from Nova Scotia.

Thank you to everyone who supported ECHO this year by casting votes for the talented nominees.  We look forward to doing this again in 2013 with  five new songs. Until then, keep supporting Canadian independent music!
